A native of Texas, Spencer spent most of his youth in Denver, Colorado. He attended Colorado State University, where he studied music. Originally a guitarist, he switched to bass full time and in 2001 relocated to Boston to pursue bigger and better things professionally.
Once in Boston, Spencer established himself as an accomplished freelance musician. He is a longtime member of The Doug Flutie Band and has performed in venues from local bars to the Super Bowl. He’s played all over the U.S. and Canada, backing up members of bands ranging from Run-D.M.C. to Boston and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Spencer has performed with artists like Brad Delp, Barry Goudreau, and Sib Hashian from the band Boston, Darryl McDaniels “DMC” of Run DMC, Sha Na Na, Deric Dyer, Chris Berman of ESPN, Ayla Brown, Ace Young, and Constantine Maroulis from American Idol, Members of Aerosmith, Members of J Geils Band. He has opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Fray, Cyndi Lauper, Marshall Tucker Band, Dennis Quaid and the Sharks.
Spencer has also performed on sixteen full length albums, and countless EP’s, radio jingles, demos, film scores, and TV show themes.
