Dave Larue

Dixie Dreggs

In a class and category all its own, the Dixie Dregs' jam/jazz/country/rock fusion, steeped in soul and exceptional technical proficiency, all but defies definition. While the Dregs never had a hit single, they were nevertheless nominated for two Grammys, in 1992 (Bring ‘Em Back Alive) and in 1994 (Full Circle). Hardcore fans cite the showy "Night of the Living Dregs" and "Refried Funky Chicken" as DD stopping points. With the Dregs since 1988, LaRue also writes an instructional column for Bass Player magazine and finished in the Top 10 "Best Overall" category in '93, '94 and '95. This culminated in LaRue receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Bass in 1996. LaRue has performed and recorded with everyone from Joe Satriani and Steve Vai to Deep Purple and the London Symphony Orchestra. He's also been an adjunct professor at Stetson University in Florida.
